Effective November 1, 2010, Information Technology Acquisitions and University Computer Support (4Help) will be offering on-site software installation support on the Torgersen Bridge. The purpose of this initiative is to provide on-site technical software support and offer bi-monthly educational seminars to eligible faculty, staff, and students. This center will provide installation assistance to individuals who obtain their software from the Software Distribution office as well as assistance installing Windows on Apple computers. In addition to assistance with software installation, the initiative will provide regularly scheduled tutorial help sessions based on common problems such as backup of data, reformat of a system, virus removal, VT-Wireless, etc.
The Software Assistance and Education Center will not be available during the summer. Fall Semester hours will be posted when they become available.
Software Distribution will no longer distribute Microsoft Office for both Windows and Macintosh or Windows OS (Windows 7) upgrades to faculty, staff, and graduate students for personal use, once the current supply is exhausted. The change is the result of licensing changes by Microsoft. Participants in the Campus Agreement Program will not be affected.
The University Bookstore will be carrying these software packages and will be happy to assist you with your purchasing needs. If you have questions, please contact Software Distribution at studentsoftware@vt.edu.
Get a FREE Adobe Studio 8 with the purchase of 2 select software items! Some exceptions may apply. Click here for more information.
EndNote X5 is now available for download at network.software.vt.edu.
In an effort to save you money over the course of your academic career, all incoming undergraduate students are required to purchase a Microsoft Campus Agreement Software Bundle. This requirement will ensure that all undergraduate students have access to the latest versions of Office and the operating system.
The bundle also provides you with upgrades for this software as long as you remain an undergraduate at Virginia Tech. Therefore, do not purchase Microsoft Office until you come to Orientation. For more information see the Requirement FAQs or contact Student Software Sales at studentsoftware@vt.edu or 540-231-3969.
In order to access the download server from off campus, you must use the Virtual Private Network (VPN). To become eligible to use VPN, you must subscribe to either the VT Wireless Service or Modem Pool. For more information, see Virtual Private Network Access.
Once you have subscribed to one of these services, refer to the following for off-campus download instructions:
Mon - Fri -- 8am to 5pm
In order to be processed on FY12 Funds, all HokieMart orders must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, June 8th.
