Additional Information

Terms of Lease

  • User must agree to abide by all software license agreements and copyright laws that exist in regards to the software that is leased.
  • User must agree to abide by Virginia Tech Acceptable Use Policies.
  • Department must agree to assume responsibility for damages up to the $250 deductible. If Risk Management determines that damages were caused by gross negligence or malicious intent, the department must agree to assume responsibility for the complete cost of repairing the damage or replacing the laptop.
  • Departmental Software Distribution reserves the right to apply additional charges to the ISR based upon the number of weeks the user keeps the laptop. Therefore, the ISR will not be closed until the laptop and software are returned to Departmental Software Distribution.
  • The user must understand that all files on the laptop will be immediately deleted upon return to the Departmental Software Distribution Office. Recovery of any files will be impossible. Therefore, Departmental Software Distribution will not be responsible for any lost files should the user leave them on the laptop.

Weekly Leasing

The laptops are available for lease on a weekly basis. The $25 fee applied will be the same regardless of whether the laptop is leased for 3 days or 7 days. One full week is considered to be from the day the laptop is leased until the same day the following week.

For example, if a laptop is leased out on Monday, it may be returned at any time on the following Monday and it will still be considered to be a one-week lease. If, however, the laptop is returned on Tuesday of the following week instead, the lease will be considered to be a two-week lease and an additional $25 will be added to the ISR.  In the same token, if a laptop is leased out on Monday, and it is returned on Wednesday of the same week, it will be considered a one-week lease and a full $25 will be charged.
